** Update, I showed the preview of our book to our social worker and all of the employees loved it. And she assured me that that never happens. I really hope they aren't blowing steam because if everyone loved it then that could mean a match sooner.
She also said she will call me Monday to set up our first appointment for our homestudy. :)
I just adopted through an agency in October. Here's a tip with the profile, let some teenage girls look at it. They are really most likely your target audience (plus I was fostering teenagers... REALLY the target audience). I changed a few pictures and updated the layout on most of my pages after their "feedback" (I actually just gave my 18-yr old foster daughter and her friends the book, stepped back, and listened to them comment). The most important thing I did was make an electronic copy. Every one of the birthmothers that chose me (yes that's birthmotherSSSS) did so from the PDF their social worker sent them...
ReplyDeleteThe most popular feature was my "FUN FACTS", I had a box on every other page or so that said:
"FUN FACT #1- I am fluent in American Sign Language. As a teenager, I performed plays with a group of deaf and hard-of-hearing students and was featured on CNN, the Washington Post, and even a book!"
and
"FUN FACT #2- Adoption & Fostering are common in my family. My great-grandmother, aunts & uncles, and grandmother have all either adopted or fostered children. I guess it’s in my blood :-)"
etc.
